Centrifugal turbines for aircraft gas turbine engines
Compared to classical axial turbines, centrifugal turbines have a number of important advantages: compactness, higher energy efficiency (efficiency is usually above 90%) and lower cost. The development of centrifugal turbine designs for a wide range of aircraft gas turbine engines will help improve the efficiency and competitiveness of domestic aircraft engines and can also be used in the development and modernisation of engine flow parts for aerospace and military equipment.
Purpose
Development of innovative high-efficiency centrifugal turbines for aircraft gas turbine engines with improved parameters (energy efficiency, compactness, cost) compared to classical axial turbines.
Tasks
- development of a general methodology for designing flow parts of centrifugal turbines.
- development of spatial shapes and structures of centrifugal turbines for a wide range of aircraft gas turbine engines with efficiency parameters higher than classical axial turbines.
Description
Centrifugal turbines have a number of important advantages over classical axial turbines, such as compactness, higher energy efficiency (efficiency is usually above 90%) and lower cost. The results of the studies conducted on the possibility of using centrifugal turbines in aircraft gas turbine engines show their significant potential and prospects for aviation equipment, including military applications. Thus, together with ZMKB Progress, a design of a 150 kW centrifugal air starter turbine was developed. Based on the results of computer modelling using original approaches, the spatial shape of the flow part and its characteristics in the entire range of operating modes were determined. The efficiency of the proposed air starter turbine at nominal operation is high, about 93 %.
The development of centrifugal turbine designs for a wide range of aircraft gas turbine engines will contribute to the efficiency and competitiveness of the domestic aircraft industry.
